Spinner Abdur Razzak and pacer Shafiul Islam's fierce bowling spells and a captain's knock by skipper Shakib Al Hasan guided Bangladesh to a 2-1 lead in the Micromax five-match ODI series, beating visiting Zimbabwe by 65 runs in the 3rd ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in the city Monday, reports UNB.
Chasing the wining target of 247, the visitors lost their wickets at regular intervals and were finally dismissed for 181 in 48.1 overs in the face of strict bowling by the Bangladeshi bowlers, especially Razzak and Shafiul.
Spinner Abdur Razzak, who took five wickets in the second ODI, again showed his mettle today. Razzak brought the breakthroughs for Bangladesh early in the Zimbabwe innings, taking the first three wickets of opener Brendan Taylor (15), one down Chamunorwa Chibhabha (7) and Hamilton Masakadza (3).
Taylor and Chibhabha both were trapped leg before, while Masakadza gave a catch to wicket keeper Mushfiqur Rahim.
Middle order batsman Craig Ervine (5) also followed the script, being caught behind by Rahim off a Shafiul Islam delivery, while pacer Mashrafee, who failed to take any wicket in the last two matches, tasted his maiden wicket in the series by bowling out dependable batsman Tatenda Taibu (3).
Regis Chakabua (5) also departed qiuckly leaving Zimbawe at 47/6 after 19 overs. He was trapped leg before wicket by a Razzak delivery.
Tail-ender Graeme Cremer scored 24 runs off 41 balls with four fours before being stumped by Rahim while try to play a big shot off Shakib Al Hasan, while Masakadza made 14 runs off 16 balls with three fours before being caught behind off a Shafiul Islam delivery.
Shafiul claimed his 3rd wicket removing number nine batsman Ray Price (14). Price hit a boundar off 24 balls before giving a catch to Suhrawardi Shuvo at deep mid-wicket.
Shafiul put an end to the Zimbabwe innings taking his 4th wicket of skipper Utseya, who offered some resistance scoring a half century in the match, but it came too late to save Zimbabwe from defeat. He contributed 67 runs off 101 balls, with three fours and three sixes before giving a catch to Imrul Kayes at mid-on.
