Tigers win against West Indies

Friday, 31 July 2009

BANGLADESH just won their first overseas Test series. Acting skipper Sakib al Hasan's unbeaten 96 off 97 balls made the four-wicket victory easy against the West Indies in Grenada in the second last. Sakib described the win as "the biggest thing" for cricket in Bangladesh, since they attained Test status in 2000. In 2005, Bangladesh clinched the first-ever Test-series victory against Zimbabwe with 1-0 on home soil.
And, Bangladesh scored a convincing victory later in the first one-day cricket match and has now a more impressive one in the second of the same one-day series, against the West Indies. The current visit of the Bangladesh team to the West Indies has, thus, proved to be a success, so far.
Sports can make a nation known across the world. We hail the 'tigers' for bringing us the much-needed victory.
