Bangladesh Women's A team clinched their second straight win in the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament by securing a three-wicket victory against Thailand at the Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok on Monday, reports BSS.
Electing to bat first, the Thai women's team were restricted to 103-9 after Bangladesh's bowlers put up a disciplined performance.
Shorifa Khatun and captain Fahima Khatun wrecked the Thai batting line-up, claiming two wickets apiece.
Nannapat Koncharoenkai was the top scorer for Thailand with 34 runs, while opener Natthakan Chantham made 24. The Thai women, however, put up huge resistance despite having limited resources on the board, keeping Bangladesh at bay while defending a meagre target.
Opener Shamima Sultana scored 26, and Lata Mondal, who made a team-best 30, steadied the ship for a while before the Thai bowlers clawed back into the contest, dismissing the duo in quick succession.
With victory at stake, Farjana Easmin held her nerve to play a 15-ball 23-run knock that eventually steered the side to victory with just one ball to spare, as Bangladesh reached 104-7. Bangladesh had earlier beaten Sri Lanka by four runs in their first game. This victory kept them in a strong position to seal a semifinal spot. They will take on Malaysia in their last Group B match tomorrow (Wednesday).
