Time for depositing small firearms extended till Dec 14

Wednesday, 3 December 2008

The government has extended the deadline for depositing small firearms (pistols and revolvers) and ammunition until December 14. Earlier, the government fixed December 3 as the last date for submission of the arms, said an official handout Tuesday. Besides, the government extended the duration of the ban on movement of the arms-owners with their arms. Now the ban will be in force from December 15 to January 31, which was from December 4 to January 5 earlier. The possessors of small arms would have to deposit their arms with their nearby police stations within the stipulated timeline, the handout said. Owners of long-barrel firearms would keep the arms under their possession, but would not carry or display those within the government announced timeline, the handout added. — BSS
