Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said on Thursday that the US investors would be benefitted if they make investment in the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Bangladesh since the government provides special benefits to investors, reports BSS.
"Following the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the work on establishing 100 special economic zones in different important places of the country is progressing fast. The work on many SEZs is also nearing completion," he said.
The Commerce Minister said this when US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter D Haas met him at his secretariat office in the city on Thursday.
Tipu said that Bangladesh is trying to sign various trade agreements like PTAs and FTAs with different countries to create trade facilities. "In pursing this, Bangladesh might loss tariff temporarily, but the country will be benefitted in the long run," he added.
He mentioned that the local factories have been made safe and working-friendly while safety in building and electricity has been ensured.
The Commerce Minister said that the Bangladeshi RMG workers are now working in a safe environment.
The US Ambassador said that Bangladesh is a friend of the United States. "The economic and trade relations between the two countries are long standing while the US is a development partner of Bangladesh. The development of Bangladesh is now visible."
