Friday, 28 May 2010

Senior Advocate Golam Arif Tipu, chief of the prosecution team of the tribunal trying the perpetrators of crimes against humanity in 1971, Thursday urged all democratic and pro-liberation forces to raise their voice unitedly against the evil forces, now out to frustrate the trial process, reports BSS.
"Trial of the perpetrators of crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation will be staged at any cost, but the fact is that a deep-rooted conspiracy is being hatched to foil the trial process in many ways," he said while addressing a lawyers' meeting at the Supreme Court Bar Association in the city.
Democratic Lawyers' Association of Bangladesh (DLAB) organised the function with its vice-president Advocate MA Quddus in the chair. Delegates from DLAB's district branches joined the meeting.
The speakers stressed the need for a rock-solid unity of the lawyers' community to help establish the rule of law in the country and also to foil all conspiracies of the vested quarters, now working against the trial of the perpetrators of crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation.
They also referred to the election pledges of the present government and called for a thorough review of its activities done during the last 17 months.
The speakers suggested expediting the government's initiative to resolve some problems like the vested property issue.
Advocates Abdur Razzak from Bogra Bar, Ms Debaboti Chakraborty from Rajbari Bar, AHM Khalequzzman from Mymensingh Bar, vice-president of the organisation Ziad-Al Malum and acting secretary of the DLAB Sheikh Akhter-ul-Alam, among others, addressed the function.
