Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC has stepped up its ongoing crackdown on illegal gas use, carrying out multiple drives in Savar, Gazipur and Narayanganj on Tuesday.
As part of routine operations, the company's Regional Sales Division in Savar conducted a drive and disconnected gas connections of Titas Food Product, Apon Hotel, Rajdhani Bakery, Protik Apparels, Shaheen Bakery and Solna Food Products over unpaid bills, says a press statement.
In Gazipur, a separate drive led by Executive Magistrate Md Faisal was conducted in Purba Chatar and Joutha Mohalla under the Joydebpur Zonal Sales Office. During the drive, authorities disconnected around 80 double-burner residential connections and seized nearly 320 feet of pipe. Two residential subscribers were also fined a total of Tk 40,000.
Meanwhile, in Narayanganj, a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Tabassum Hasan Tanisha conducted operations at four locations in Baganbari, North Ajibpur and Bhumi Palli in Siddhirganj.
About 50 connections were severed due to bill arrears, use of excess burners and illegal consumption, while approximately 90 feet of pipe were seized during the drive.
Officials also found gas being diverted from a residential connection to a factory, Khaja Limes. These connections were cut off and two consumers were fined Tk 15,000.
The company's vigilance team in Narayanganj also inspected nine establishments. Inspectors found an LPG line connected to the internal system of Mita Dyeing and Printing Ltd and instructed its removal. A CNG line linked to the house line of Nannu Spinning Mills Ltd. was also detected. Officials asked the subscriber to install a non-return valve.
In a separate drive in Sonargaon, Titas Gas disconnected 10 double-burner connections in five houses.
