Titas Gas solves leakage problem

'Use gas burners sans confusion'

FE REPORT | Wednesday, 26 April 2023

The Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd addressed the capital's gas leakage problem in the early hours of Tuesday, which created panic among the city dwellers in the previous night.
Earlier, the panicked dwellers in many parts of the city suspended using their gas burners. Many people had to opt for using electric cookers or microwave ovens to avoid any risk, while some were even afraid to stay in their residences.
However, the Titas Gas authority through a media statement on Tuesday said it solved the issues following allegations of gas leakage from city people.
The piped gas distribution company also advised the city people to keep using their gas burners without any confusion.
It said they kept receiving allegations of gas leakage in different parts of the city between 10:30 pm and 11:00 pm on Monday.
On receiving the allegations, 14 emergency teams of the company visited the areas to assess the situation and advised people not to be panicked.
The Titas Gas authority reduced gas pressure for many areas, where it supplies the energy through district regulation system (DRS).
It also mentioned that gas pressure in the pipelines increased significantly during the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, when most of the industries remain closed - leading to lower gas demand.
"At present, gas supply situation in Dhaka city is normal," the Titas Gas added.
Earlier, a number of households in the areas like Rampura, Badda, Banasree, Baily Road, Central Road, Hatirpool, Panthapath, Mogbazar, Hazaribag, etc, detected gas leakage, as they got odour at around 10:00 pm on Monday.
Many households abstained from using their burners and switched off  gas connections to avoid any untoward incidents, since there have been several explosions in the city - said to be resulted from gas leakage in the recent days.
The news of gas leakage spread soon through social media, where many explained their situation and sought support. The national emergency call centre, Titas Gas, and Fire Service also received the information from a number of sources.
Mosques in several areas alerted people by using loudspeakers not to use their burners.
