Titu seeks EU, UK support in upcoming WTO confce

State minister for commerce Ahsanul Islam (Titu) has urged the European Union and the United Kingdom to support issues of the least developed countries (LDCs) in the upcoming WTO ministerial conference.
He made the request during separate meetings with EU Ambassador and Head of Delegation Charles Whiteley and British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke at his secretariat office on Monday.
The ministerial conference (MC13) of the World Trade Organization (WTO) is scheduled to be held from February 26-29 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Mr Titu has also requested the envoys to produce goods, those their countries import from Bangladesh, here under contract manufacturing arrangement, and mentioned that many governments are investing in the country's economic zones to produce goods.
Apart from the economic zones, all kinds of facilities will be provided by Bangladesh for the establishment of the industrial units, he assured.
The junior minister also requested the envoys to invest in the handicrafts sector as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared it as the product of the year 2024.
British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke said that currently both Bangladesh and the UK have good bilateral relations in addition to development cooperation. She also emphasised on partnership in terms of economic and trade cooperation.
Senior commerce secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh and senior officials of the commerce ministry were present at the meeting.
