The central bank of Bangladesh is going to issue 200 million pieces of Tk 1000-denomination bank note for the first time in the country from October 27, officials said.
"The 1000-taka bank notes will be circulated from the next week," Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr Salehuddin Ahmed told reporters after a meeting with chief executive officers and managing directors of non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) Wednesday.
However, a BB senior official told the FE that the new currency notes would be available from October 27.
"We'll issue 200 million pieces of such bank note in phases to meet the growing demand," another BB official said, adding that long-lasting paper has been used in making such bank notes.
