Tk 10.06m allocated as agri-aid for B'baria flood-hit farmers

BRAHMANBARIA, Sept 8: The government has allocated Tk 10.06 million as agricultural assistance to rehabilitate the flood-affected farmers in the district.
Agriculture Secretary Md Abdul Aziz made the disclosure while speaking as the chief guest at the conference held at the District Collectorate Office, Brahmanbaria Friday.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Abdul Hai presided over the conference.
Under the post-flood rehabilitation programme, fertiliser and seeds of different crops, including boro, wheat, maize, lentil and vegetables, will be purchased and distributed among 46,124 small and marginal farmers of the district.
Director General (DG) of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Md. Shamsul Alam, Commander of Army-led Joint Forces Ltd. Col. Showkat Alam, and Chairman Brahmanbaria municipality Hafizur Rahman Molla Kachi, among others, were present on the occasion.
Distribution of seeds will be started soon, which will continue until December.
Besides, local DAE has prepared seedbeds of transplanted Aman on five acres of land of Nasirnagar, Nabinagar and Sadar upazilas in the district.
Official sources said the recent flood has damaged standing crops on 9214 hectares of land of the district, incurring a loss of Tk 367 million.
Later, Agriculture Secretary Md. Abdul Aziz distributed relief materials among 50 more flood affected and tornado-hit people at Durgapur under Ashuganj Upazila.
