Tk 10.4 billion SCC budget announced

SYLHET, Sept 19: Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Ariful Haque Chowdhury has announced annual budget of the city corporation worth Tk10.402 billion (1040 cr 20 lakh) for the 2022-2023 fiscal at a press conference at a convention centre in the city this afternoon.
The budget was Tk 8.392 billion (839 cr 20 lakh) for the previous fiscal while Tk 7.4355 billion (743 cr 55 lakh) for FY2020-2021.
The mayor in his speech said that there would be special allocation of Tk 460 million (46 cr) from the government for Covid-19 and dengue prevention, cleanliness drive and publicity, Tk 50 million for establishment of plastic recycling plant and Tk 50 million (5 cr) in development assistance.
The mayor said the city areas have been extended recently to 59.5 square km from 26.5 sq km. The number of wards has been raised to 42 from 27. Accordingly, we submitted a development plan for Tk 41.89 billion (4189 cr) for the extended city areas and we are awaiting approval from the LGRD ministry, he added.
SCC councillors, officials and people from various sections attended the budget announcement programme.
