CHITTAGONG, Sept 27: Despite undertaking special initiatives in realisation of outstanding revenue, the amount of outstanding dues of PDB lying with domestic subscribers and government and private organisations is Tk 1.39 billion (139 crore), sources said.
Meanwhile, Power Development Board (PDB) in the port city through launching drives against the defaulting subscribers snapped over 34 thousand power connections.
The overall power situation in the city has improved a bit but no remarkable progress has been achieved in realisation of outstanding dues, the sources said.
In view of availability of adequate water in the Kaptai Lake, all the five units of Kaptai-based Karnaphuli hydro power centre are now in operation.
On the other hand, as the two units of Raozan thermal power centre and another two units of Shikalbaha barge-mounted plant and Shikalbaha thermal power plant are now capable of generating power, the overall power situation has improved to some extent.
The PDB strengthened its special campaign for realisation of outstanding dues from the defaulters since January last.
Under the campaign, more than 34 thousand connections have been snapped. After snapping connections, PDB realised around Tk 160 million.
With the realisation of outstanding dues, power connections of 14,033 subscribers have been restored, PDB sources added.
