CHITTAGONG, Nov 08: More than 2900 organisations and persons whitened their black money of over Tk 1.55 billion responding to the call of the government for legalising undisclosed money. The amount of revenue realised from that money is around Tk 220 million.
However, expressing disappointment, concerned officials of the revenue department said, the number of the persons availing the chance of legalising the undisclosed money is much lower than expected.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) would shortly launch the campaign of detecting the persons and organisations that refrained from availing the chance.
According to Chittagong-based three taxation zones, the government offered a chance of legalising undisclosed money within a period of four months beginning from July 1 during the current fiscal year. A total of 2927 organisations and persons legalised their undisclosed money.
The ordinance in this connection reads that the organisations and persons who had procured land, buildings, vehicles, share etc through investing their earned income within the stated timeframe but did not disclose the same in the respective income tax returns, are allowed to legalise their undisclosed income on payment of the fixed income tax and also fine at the rate of 7.00 per cent in addition to the income tax.
