Tk 15m allocated for deprived street children's education programme

The government has allocated Tk 15 million to make deprived street children's education programme 2012 a success.
The programme with the assistance of UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) aimed at giving education to deprived children, and make them self-reliant under safe protection.
"The government will bring 10,000 more deprived children under education programme in 20 districts this year. Under the programme each child will get Tk 1,500 monthly. Later, it will be spread out across the country," State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said while distributing cheque among 200 deprived children at Ukhia Upazila headquarters in Cox's Bazar Friday.
The government has launched the programme first at Lalbagh in the capital to give light of education to five-hundred deprived street children.
The state minister also visited adolescent clubs on Thursday and talked with girls.
There are 2860 adolescent clubs in 29 selected districts in the country to make the children prepared on how to cope with the challenges of life imparting them training in tailoring, cultivation of mushroom, photography and beautification courses.
The recipients of the training from the clubs could also get financial support to make them involved in more income-generating activities.
The clubs are also engaged in creating awareness about bad impact of early child marriage, women's rights, sexual harassment and Eaveteasing.
Dr Chowdhury along with the UNICEF representative visited three houses to see handicraft products made by women. They were satisfied to see activities of the women, said a handout of the ministry.
