Tk 178.03b foreign aid likely in next fiscal

The government expects to receive Tk 178.03 billion worth of foreign assistance in fiscal 2008-09, which is 13.6 per cent of the total outlay of the proposed budget.
The amount is Tk 31.45 billion higher than that in the original budget of the outgoing fiscal 2007-08 and Tk 3.91 billion over that of the revised one.
In the original budget of the outgoing fiscal, the government expected Tk146.58 billion worth of foreign assistance including grant and loans, which was 13.2 per cent of the total budget outlay.
The finance and planning adviser Mirza Azizul Islam Monday announced a Tk 999.62 billion national budget for the next fiscal 2008-09 over electronic media.
The projected receipt of Tk 178.03 billion as foreign grants and loans in the upcoming fiscal will be spent on different development works and social safety-net programmes.
Out of the expected foreign aid, Tk 63.46 billion will come as grant from different donors. The amount is 6.4 per cent of the total size of the new budget.
On the other hand, Tk 114.57 billion will be mobilised as loans from different bilateral and multilateral donors, which is 7.9 per cent of total budget outlay.
Major portion of Tk 45.90 billion worth of foreign assistance will be spent on implementation of Annual Development Programme (ADP) and the remaining Tk 32.13 billion will be used for other purposes.
According to the new budget, the government will mobilise Tk 130.05 billion as project aid, Tk 9.96 billion as food aid, Tk 0.70 billion as commodity aid, Tk 24.90 billion as special support/credit for development, Tk 12.12 billion as miscellaneous fund and structural adjustment and Tk 0.30 billion as other aid.
