Tk 20m gold seized at Shah Amanat

Customs intelligence officials seized 40 gold bars weighing 4.50 kilograms (kg) from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft at Hazrat Shah Amanat (R) International Airport in Chittagong’s Patenga on Thursday. Tapon Chakrabarti, Assistant Commissioner of air customs, said the Flight ‘BG 028’ arrived at Hazrat Shah Amanat Airport from Abudhabi of UAE around 6:30am. As a regular duty, a customs officials’ team searched the Biman flight after its passengers got down and recovered 40 gold bars wrapped up in black scotch tape from under the seat No. 28 in an abandoned condition. Current market value of the seized gold is around Tk 20 million, according to a news agency.
