The government needs to spend around Tk 20 million to repair nine damaged compartments of the Kishoreganj-bound Egarosindur Express, torched by aggrieved people Wednesday in protest against the killing of Narsingdi mayor.
Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain told this to journalists when he visited Kamalapur Rail Station in the city Thursday to see the Bangladesh Railway's (BR) arrangement for carrying passengers during the Eid-ul-Azha festival.
Thousands of passengers were seen stranded at the station, following the fire at the train.
The minister said the BR has introduced seven pairs of special trains for the homebound passengers during the Eid. Besides, the BR has also tagged 36 additional broad-gauge compartments and 20 metre-gauge compartments with the regular trains.
