Tk 2,20,550 fixed per head to perform Hajj

The Cabinet Monday approved three agendas including an amended National Hajj Policy fixing Tk 2,20,550 per person for this year to perform haj, reports BSS.
The approval was given at the 16th meeting of the Cabinet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at the Prime Minister's Office in the city.
Besides, the Cabinet also approved in principle the Indigenous Community Cultural Institutions Act, 2009 and Fisheries Hatchery Act, 2009.
Briefing the reporters, PM's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said the Cabinet updated the National Hajj Policy following a guideline of the Saudi government. According to the guideline, all pilgrims should possess an international passport instead of pilgrims pass.
Members of the Council of Ministers, advisers to the Prime Minister and state ministers of the concerned ministries attended the meeting.
Cabinet Secretary Md Abdul Aziz and concerned secretaries were also present.
Under the Saudi guideline, Azad said, the government had decided to update the National Haj Policy on the backdrop of some changes made by the Saudi government regarding the next haj.
An increase in accommodation has been made for them (Hajis) from three and a half square metres to four square metres in Makkah and from four and a half square metres to five square metres in Madinah, he added.
Besides, rent of additional one per cent house for the pilgrims and making 50 Saudi riyals bank guarantee for each of the Hajis are included in the new package. Under the package, he said, transport facilities had been kept for those pilgrims who would reside at least two kilometres away from the 'Haram Sharif.'
The press secretary said the Cabinet also approved in principle the Indigenous Community Cultural Institution Act-2009 aiming at restoring and developing the cultural heritage of different ethnic minorities through setting up cultural institutions.
Under the Act, he said, Indigenous Cultural Institution would be set up as a statutory organisation which would facilitate the indigenous people to accumulation of immovable and movable properties.
Provision would also be kept to involve indigenous people into the mainstream of the nation and allow the indigenous artistes to take part in every state functions, the press secretary said.
Besides, the Cabinet approved in principle the Fisheries Hatchery Act-2009 for ensuring sustainable development of the country's fisheries resources.
Azad said the Act would stipulate ways to set up fish and shrimp hatcheries across the country with proper management for the production of quality fish fries.
He said provisions of awarding punishment for the hatchery owners had been kept in the Act in case of violation of any of its clauses.
