Tk 2.87b Dutch help for Popular Edn Programme

The Netherlands government will give 30 million Euro (Tk 287 crores) to Friends in Village Development Bangladesh (FIVDB) under a five-year agreement to implement 'Jonoshilon' (Popular Education), reports UNB.
The agreement was signed at a local hotel in presence of Netherlands Ambassador Bea ten Tusscher, Zahin Ahmed, executive director of FIVDB, Nazrul Islam Khan, director general, Directorate of Primary Education and Shyamal Kanti Ghosh, director general, Bureau of Non-Formal Education, the Netherlands Embassy.
A release of the Netherlands embassy said the Jonoshilon programme has been developed in consultation with the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. It envisages substantial scaling up of FIVDB's work in primary education, adult literacy and livelihood training, expanding its present coverage of 112 schools in 204 villages to 512 schools in 850 villages.
The programme will be implemented in communities that are particularly disadvantaged in terms of access to primary education and literacy training. The selected districts are: Dhaka, Netrakona, Kishoreganj, Brahmanbaria, Gaibandha, Jaipurhat, Sylhet, Habiganj, Moulvibazar and Sunamganj.
