FE REPORT | Monday, 28 September 2020

Law Minister Anisul Huq said the e-judiciary project, taken at a cost of Tk 28.00 billion, will be placed before a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) soon.
The minister gave the information while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the eight-storey Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court complex in Munshiganj through video conferencing on Sunday. It has been constructed at a cost of about Tk 420 million.
He insisted that virtual courts have had many successes during the Covid-19 pandemic situation. More than 50,000 cases have been settled through the virtual courts till September 26.
Highlighting the role of information technology (IT) in tackling the Covid-19-related situation in the Judiciary, he, however, pointed out that judges and lawyers need trainings to make virtual courts more successful.
The Supreme Court earlier suspended operation of all the courts as part of the government's efforts to contain spread of the coronavirus pandemic in March 26.
However, the court proceedings began through videoconference on May 11 after President Abdul Hamid promulgated an ordinance on May 10, allowing all courts to conduct trial proceedings through videoconference and other digital means.
