Tk 291.50b subsidy given to agri sector

The government in the last four fiscal years gave a sum of Tk 291.50 billion as subsidy to the agricultural sector, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury told the Parliament on Sunday. The subsidy was given mainly against fertilisers for the farmers, rebate for power and to the sugarcane farmers, he said, replying to a written question of Morshed Alam (Noakhali-2). The minister informed that the subsidy given to the agriculture sector was Tk 120 billion in 2012-13 fiscal, Tk 65 billion in 2011-12, Tk 57 billion in 2010-11 and Tk 49.50 billion in 2009-10 fiscal, according to a news agency.
