Tk 29m gold bars seized from Biman flight at Ctg airport

CHITTAGONG, Sept 21: The Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport Customs authority seized 58 gold bars weighing seven kilograms (7 kg) from a passenger of Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight Sunday.
Md Ullah Al Amin, the passenger from Dubai, was arrested in connection with the incident and a case was lodged against him with Patenga police station. The Biman Bangladesh BG-204 flight landed at the airport at 10:30 am.
Assistant Commissioner of Customs at the airport Tapan Kumar Chakraborty said the gold bars were found strapped around his waist as he came down from the flight.
Estimated cost of the seized gold bars as per market value is Tk 29 million, he said. Twelve gold bars were also found with another passenger who had landed from Dubai Saturday.
