Tk 3.327m snatched away, one shot in city

Unidentified muggers snatched away Tk 3.327 million (33.27 lakh) after shooting an accountant of a private company in the capital's Moghbazar area in the broad daylight on Sunday, police and locals said.
Police said Selim Akhtar (30), an accountant of Aqua Marine Distributor Company, came under the attack of the armed muggers at about 1:10 pm, when he along with his colleague Pintu Ranjan Das was going to the Moghbazar branch of Brac Bank to deposit the money.
Quoting the victim, sub-inspector of the Ramna Model Police Station Ashiqul Haque told the FE that a group of 4-5 muggers had intercepted the duo in front of the private bank and scuffled for taking away the bags containing the money.
The assailants also shot Selim Akhtar in the leg as he tried to resist the gang. The victim was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment, he said.
The police intensified their intelligence to nab the culprits, he added.
Talking to reporters, Pintu Ranjan Das said they had moved to the bank branch with two bags containing the money for deposit the amount there.
He said they had suddenly come under the attack of the snatchers and he had seen the criminals grabbing the bag from his colleague.
"I let go my bag in fear of getting shot, as they were firing. Then the criminals riding motorbikes snatch away the second bag. But I had nothing to do," he said. However, the police till filing of the report at 6:30 pm could not manage to arrest any of the criminals.
