Tk 4500 sought as minimum wage for garment workers

FE Report brThe Garment Sramik-0-Shilpa Rakhsha Jatiya Mancha urged the government Sunday to fix the minimum wages of garment employees at Tk 4500 a month in view of price hike of essential commodities.brMembers of the organisation staged a token hunger strike at its office at Topkhana Road in the city in support of their demand on the day.brThe leaders of the organisation during their programme demanded a 50 per cent dearness allowances for the garment workers until the new minimum wages were fixed.brThey also demanded for introducing rationing system for the workers during the month of Ramadan.brRashed Khan Menon, president of Workers Party, SKOP leader Shafiuddin Ahmed, women leader Hazera Sultana and others also spoke during the token strike.brMeanwhile, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has decided to introduce rationing for the garment workers during the month of RamadanbrThe BGMEA will announce the detail about the rationing through a press conference at its office in the city soon.
