Tk 455m gold haul at Ctg airport, 10 held

CHTTTAGONG, Mar 25: In the biggest gold haul in recent times, customs officials seized 905 gold bars, weighing 105 kg, from a Biman flight from Dubai and detained 10 people at Shah Amanat International Airport here Tuesday. Tipped-off, the customs officials searched the BG026 flight of Bangladesh Biman from Dubai and recovered the gold worth Tk 455 million (Tk 45.50 crore) from several bags kept beneath the seats of seven passengers. Seven of the detainees were the Biman passengers -- Shafique Islam of Mymensingh, Mansoor Islam of Munshiganj, Nahid Talukder, Mahinuddin of Raujan upazila, Peyarul Islam, Imtiaz Khan of Fatikchhari upazila and Md Yakub of Hathazari upazila in Chittagong. — UNB
