Tk 54,000 fine realised from 11 shops in city mkt

A team of consumer rights protection department of commerce ministry Tuesday conducted a drive and realised fine worth Tk 54,000 from 10 shops and one hotel at Jhigatola kitchen market in city.
The team, headed by Senior Assistant Secretary Abul Hashem, comprising representatives of Consumers’ Association of Bangladesh (CAB), Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) and Department of Fisheries (DoF) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) provided support to the drive.
Ten shops were fined for not mentioning maximum retail price of Danish condensed milk, Baghabari ghee, Tang and Complan, as per Section 39 of Consumers’ Rights Protection Act 2009.
A hotel was fined for making food in an unhealthy environment, and storing and selling adulterated food.
The team monitored the prices of rice, oil, sugar, ginger, garlic, spices and packaged food items. The team warned the shop owners not to sell soyabean oil at prices more than the fixed price.
