FE Report
Despite heightened police security arrangements during Eid vacation burglars decamped with gold ornaments worth about Tk 60 million from a jewellery shop at Gulshan on the night of the Eid.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police had put in place a 3-tier security arrangement to check burglary, theft and dacoity during the vacation taking cue from past incidents of heists when most of the city residents go to their village homes to celebrate the occasion.

Police said a gang of thieves entered Noor Jewellers at Gulshan Plaza by breaking open the shutter of a restaurant behind the shop and looted a huge quantity of gold ornaments from the jewellery Monday midnight.
Nazir Ahmed, owner of the shop, told reporters on Tuesday that he closed his shop around 3:00am on Monday and was informed about the theft early Tuesday.
"I lost gold ornaments worth around Tk 60 million in the heist. The police have miserably failed to ensure security for city dwellers during the Eid vacation," he said.
Soon after the theft, police picked up two security guards, Abul Kashem and Mohir Uddin of the shopping complex, for interrogation. On their confession, the police arrested a businessman, Haji Shahid Alam, owner of Narayanganj Birani House, from his Narayanganj residence Tuesday night.
"After interrogation of the suspect it would be known who were behind the burglary," an official of Gulshan police station told the FE.
