Tk 63.51b agri credit will be disbursed

The government has proposed a target to disburse Tk 63.51 billion as agriculture credit through eight state-owned banks and financial institutions in fiscal 2007-08.
"Agricultural credit as an input to the rural socio-economic development as well the productivity increase of agro-sector has a special significance," the finance adviser said while announcing the budget Thursday.
He said investment in agriculture plays a direct role in poverty reduction.
The loans have been given to agro-based eight sub-sectors like crops, irrigation equipment, livestock, agricultural products marketing, fisheries and poverty alleviation, sources in the central bank said.
The banks and financial institutions are: Sonali Bank, Janata Bank, Agrani Bank, Rupali Bank, Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB), Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB), Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) and Bangladesh Samobaya Bank Limited (BSBL).
