Tk 6.35b projects to rebuild flood-damaged roads in Sylhet region approved

SYLHET, Sept 15: The Roads & Highways Department has approved a total of 31 projects at a cost of Tk 6.35 billion for reconstruction and rehabilitation of various roads, badly damaged by the recent devastating floods in the greater Sylhet region, official sources informed.
Most of the roads remained under 3 to 4 feet water during the prolonged floods. Besides, at many places a portion of the upazila connecting roads had been washed away.
However, Superintending Engineer of the R & H, Sylhet Zone Utpal Samanta said that as the projects are approved centrally we would float tenders in a fortnight and the works would start after two months.
The major projects include Dhaka-Kachpur-Jogodishour-Shiaistaganj-Sylhet-Tamabil Highway, Sylhet-Sunamganj Highway, Sheola-Sutarkandi Road, Govindaganj-Chhatak-Doara road, Rajnagar-Juri-Kulaura-Barlekha Road, Bir Muktiojoddha Commandant Manik Chowdhury Road, Shaistaganj-Habiganj-Nabiganj (Aushkandi) Road, Sylhet-Sunamganj Highway, Rajnagar-Kulaura-Juri Road, Habiganj-Baniachang-Ajmiriganj-Shulla Road, Sylhet-Golapganj-Charkhai-Zakiganj highway, Madanpur-Derai-Shulla Road, Jamalganj-Sunamganj Road, Sunamganj-Doarabazar Road, Baniachang-Nabiganj Road and Kulaura-Brahmanbazar-Fenchuganj Road.
