BRAHMANBARIA, May 11 (bdnews24.com): The government is set to suffer nearly Tk 70 million revenue losses as export and import of goods through Akhaura Land Port suspended Wednesday for a week.
Agartala Land Port authorities had gone for the weeklong suspension of port activities ahead of Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram's visit there, Akhaura port officials said.
Mr Chidambaram is scheduled to visit Agartala on May 17, they said.
"Although the Indian customs authorities are yet to inform us about their decision, we came to know it from the traders," Akhaura Land Port's Customs Officer Mohammad Abul Bashar told the news agency.
Akhaura Land Port C&F Agents Association General Secretary Mohammad Monir Hossain Babul also said Indian businesses had informed them that they would not take any goods through the port between May 11 and May 17.
