Tk 81b for Padma Bridge

An allocation of Tk 81 billion has been proposed for construction of Padma Multipurpose Bridge in the financial year (FY) 2014-2015 aiming to complete the bridge by 2018.
Giving topmost priority for building the country's mega infrastructure development scheme over the Padma River in the upcoming fiscal, the proposed budget said contract signing for the construction of the Bridge will be done this month.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith said in his budget speech Thursday: "Let me inform the House that the construction of Padma Bridge is underway despite myriads of difficulties". Once completed, this will contribute around 1.2 per cent to the GDP annually, he added.
In the meantime, the land acquisition and rehabilitation activities of the project are about to be completed. The construction of approach roads from both directions is progressing well.
The construction of the main bridge will kick-start this month and the engagement of contractors for river training will take place in July-August period, according to the proposed budget.
