The new budget allocates 68.3 per cent for salary, allowance and pension, 3.69 per cent for other grants, 22.77 per cent for goods and services, and 3.54 per cent for capital grants.
As per the proposed budget, the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) will provide Tk 7.6 billion. On the other hand, Tk 850 million will come from DU's own sources.
As a result, Tk 600.99 million will be in deficit.
Last year, DU unveiled a Tk 9.2-billion budget.
In his budget speech, VC Dr Akhtaruzzaman said any development of DU really means the development of Bangladesh.
"Therefore, to achieve short-, medium- and long-term plans of the government for national development, we'll be working tirelessly from our respective positions in the areas of education, research, technological innovation, administrative skills, environment, leadership and ideal human resources."
Earlier, the treasurer placed the proposed budget in a syndicate meeting that approved the budget for announcement at the annual senate session.
