Tobacco: An enemy to our health
Friday, 5 January 2018
SMOKING damages nearly every organ in the body and is directly responsible for a number of diseases. Many organisations have been conducting anti-tobacco campaigns but sadly the number of smokers is not decreasing. As per statistics of the World Health Organization (WHO), 22 million Bangladeshi men are smokers of cigarettes while female smokers are only 0.7 million.
Now thanks to the mobile phone we see citizens of our country have become more health conscious and if we can reach all the people and inform them in details about the negative impact of smoking, it will help reduce the number of smokers. In school textbooks, we should include a chapter so that the young learners can know about the bad impact of smoking on our health. Smoking accounts for 90 per cent of all lung cancer deaths. It is high time we stayed away from tobacco and encouraged others to do the same in order to be healthy. We must not forget that one who has health has hope, and one who has hope has everything.
