Tofail dispels Ramadan stock crunch

The government will take stern action against the traders who will hike prices of essential commodities during the month of Ramadan, commerce minister Tofail Ahmed said on Monday.  
"I call upon the traders to keep the prices of essential commodities at tolerable level during the Ramadan. If any of them try to manipulate price, then we will take stern action against them," he said at the price review meeting.
The meeting was held between the importers, wholesalers, and government departments ahead of Ramadan at the conference room of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
The commerce minister said that the country has sufficient stock of essential commodities and there will be no crisis in supplies.
The traders assured the commerce minister that there will be no price hike during the holy month of fasting.
Lawmaker from old Dhaka Mohammad Selim, also known as Haji Selim,  senior secretary of the ministry of commerce (MoC) Hedayetullal Al Mamoon, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Abdul Matlub Ahmad  and other high officials of the ministries and department among, others were present.
