Togo is offering lucrative investment scope for the Bangladeshi textile industry, said a senior minister of the West African nation in Dhaka on Thursday.
"Our private textile sector is dynamic and open to collaboration to strengthen partnership and stimulate economic exchanges between the two nations," said Togolese Republic investment promotion minister Rose Kayi Mivedor.
She said this at a seminar styled 'Roadshow on Business Opportunities in Togo (West Africa)' at a hotel.
As an active member of the Commonwealth, Togo is firmly committed to strengthening business ties and creating an environment conducive to investment, she added.
"We've taken important steps to achieve this goal, including the development and implementation of our Government Roadmap 3025, under the great leadership of the Head of the States."
Ms Mivedor said the textile sector is offering exceptional opportunities, in particular the valorisation of Togo's cotton production and the creation of added value in this industry.
She said Togo's geographical position, unique in West Africa, with first-rate transport infrastructure such as Lome airport and the autonomous port of Lome, facilitates experts to global markets and represents an unrivalled opportunity for business.
The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) of Bangladesh and Arise, a renowned developer and operator of world-class industrial ecosystems in Africa, hosted the event to highlight untapped business opportunities in Togo.
EPB vice-chairman AHM Ahsan said Bangladesh and Togo have complementary strengths that can be leveraged to boost trade and investment between the two countries.
He urged businesses from both sides to explore new avenues for collaboration and seize the vast potential that exists.
EPB director general Mahbubur Rahman said the roadshow is a significant step towards realising untapped business opportunities between Bangladesh and Togo.
He called on businesses from both countries to engage in fruitful discussions and explore potential partnerships.
Rodrigue AKUE-ATSA, a representative from Togo, said Bangladesh's business community can use Togo as a gateway to export their products to many African countries.
Heena Saboo of ARISE emphasised the need to expand trade and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Togo, given many an opportunity that exists.
Overall, the roadshow was a positive step towards strengthening trade and investment ties between Bangladesh and Togo.
