Tokyo investors brace for earnings reports

Monday, 27 July 2009

TOKYO, July 26 (AFP): Tokyo investors will focus on domestic earnings reports this week for fresh leads on whether corporate Japan is recovering from the country's worst recession in decades, analysts said Friday.
Market participants are hoping companies, having moved to cut costs to cope with the recession, will report signs of an improvement in the April-June quarter, said Okasan Securities equity strategist Hirokazu Fujiki.
"Demand for Japanese shares was lagging behind demand for overseas assets recently, but next week that situation may be reversed if there are positive surprises," he added.
