Tokyo shares opened higher Thursday after a big drop in the previous trading day, following a buoyant performance in the overnight US market and a positive Japanese core machinery orders data for August. At 9:15 a.m. (0015 GMT), the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 125.17 points, or 0.80 per cent, from Wednesday to 15,721.15. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 6.40 points, or 0.50 per cent, according to globalpost.com
