Tokyo shares open sharply lower

Tokyo share opened sharply lower Tuesday with its benchmark Nikkei index plunging over two per cent on a weak trading sentiment here dragged down by continued falls in the US stocks market. At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average tumbled 337.00 points, or 2.20 per cent, from Friday to 14,963.55, falling below the 15,000 line for the first time in about two months. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 28.41 points, or 2.29 per cent, to 1, 214.68.
