Tokyo shares tumble

Tokyo stocks were down 0.77 per cent on Thursday morning, with the Japanese market retreating after a downturn on Wall Street and as a stronger yen bruised exporter shares. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index lost 116.71 points to 14,952.77 by the break, while the Topix index of all first-section shares lost 0.30 per cent, or 3.70 points, to 1,235.37, according to AFP.
