Tokyo stocks up 0.16pc by break

Tokyo stocks rose 0.16 per cent on Wednesday morning, as the market cast off early losses that came on the back of data showing Japan's economy contracted in the last quarter. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index, which opened 0.33 per cent lower, rose 24.79 points to 15,186.10 by the break, while the Topix index of all first-section issues added 0.20 per cent, or 2.46 points, to 1,260.15, according to AFP.
