Tomato cultivation gains popularity in Netrakona

NETRAKONA, Oct 16 (BSS): Cultivation of tomato gained much popularity among the vegetable cultivators in different rural areas of the district in recent years for being a profitable variety.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office sources said many farmers have started showing their keen interest to cultivate tomato on their arable and fallow land on a commercial basis for the whole season to get much economic benefit.
Over 1,500 farmers have cultivated tomato on 80-bigha of land in different areas of the district and the farmers achieved bumper production of the variety just ended summer season and they became happy for getting fair prices against their product.
Tomato cultivator Faruk of Katli area of the district town said he has already earned Taka about 70,000 by selling tomato on his one bigha of land.
