Tommy Miah's potato recipes to meet rice shortage

Monday, 23 June 2008

Bangladesh born Chef Tommy Miah has given heed to the Army Chief's injunction that people should help counteract the current rice shortage by eating more potatoes instead of rice, said a press release.

Tommy is focussing on dishes where potatoes replace rice in his latest TV Cookery programmes- and in fact, he has had worries about the nation's rice supply for many years.

Some ten years ago he arranged, with the cooperation of British Airways, a trial batch of prime Scottish seed potatoes to be presented to Sreepur Shishu Polli Plus (Orphanage) so that they could augment the food supply from their extensive gardens.

In addition he has featured potato dishes in recipes presented at cookery demonstrations in Europe. His latest venture, a Bangladesh Food Festival at the European Parliament in Brussels, will include a variety of dishes using potatoes from the many chefs taking part.
