Torture in custody: 2 OCs among 8 cops suspended

Eight policemen of Kotwali Police Station, including its two officers-in-charge, have been suspended on charge of torturing the brother of Chhatak municipality mayor Kalam Chowdhury in police custody. The action was taken against the policemen in compliance with a High Court order on charge of torturing Kamal Ahmed Chowdhury. The suspended policemen are OC Ataur Rahman, OC (Investigation) Shyamal Banik, sub-inspector Ashraful Islam, assistant sub-inspector Abu Taher, constables Adhir Chandra, Rajib Kanti Das, Azadur Rahman and Nazmul Hossain, according to a news agency.
