Tortured housewife rescued in Kurigram

KURIGRAM, May 14 (UNB) : A housewife was rescued after 14 hours of brutal torture perpetrated on her by her husband and in-laws at Nijai Khamar village in Ulipur Upazila early Friday. The victim was identified as Shahnaz Parvin (30), wife of Abu Saeed( 35), of the village. Local people said Abu Sayeed, son of Hafez Mia married Shahnaz Parvin, daughter of Alhaz Solaiman Mia of Doldolia village of the upazila in 2000. They said since then her in-laws used to torture her on flimsy grounds. Neighbors said Thursday noon her in-laws picked up a quarrel with Shahnaz over a trifling matter and after brutal torture tied her up with a rope in her room. Hearing the shrill cry of Shahnaz locals rushed in but they were refrained from entering the house. Meanwhile, the twin daughters of Shahnaz escaped from the scene and informed their maternal uncle about the incident who later informed the police. Police later rushed to the spot and rescued Shahnaz at 2am Friday and admitted her to Ulipur health complex.
