Towards the city mayors

Wednesday, 6 May 2015

Plenty of promises and pledges were made by mayoral candidates prior to city corporation elections. Considering the number one problem, traffic jam, some short term actions such as small- and medium-overpasses at most of the junctions may be taken up. The jobs should be awarded to large contractors involving outside technical collaboration.
The schools and colleges of all the wards should be developed identically so that students are not required to travel several kilometres to attend good institutions. It should be made mandatory for students to attend schools and colleges of their own localities.
Car parking lots of 8 to 12 stories should be built at important locations so that no vehicles are parked on roads creating traffic jam.
There are sophisticated automated signals which are not used by the traffic personnel. Instead they control traffic manually. The automated traffic signals should be strictly followed.
Karwan bazar is located between the boundaries of two city corporations. It should be developed into a large shopping complex of 15-20 storied buildings on advices from foreign consultants.
There are many a shopping centres in Dhaka, but a market of fixed price shops should be built so that customers do not have to bargain over prices.
