TR programme nearing completion, FFW to begin next month

RANGPUR, Dec 21 (BSS): The ongoing Test Relief (TR) programme is expected to complete successfully by this month end and Food For Work (FFW) programme will begin from January in the district.
The programme helps the poor a lot as each beneficiary has been getting six kilograms of wheat a day as wages from the ongoing rural infrastructure maintenance activities in all eight upazilas.
The TR work that began last month has been progressing fast and a total of 18,000 people, including distressed women, are getting the facilities for 30 working days to earn a total of 180 kilograms of wheat per head.
District Relief and Rehabilitation officer of Rangpur Jargis Rahman told the news agency that the wheat is being used to implement the programme in all eight upazilas to help the poor people lead a better life.
After completion of the TR programme, the FFW programme of the government will begin from the next month in the district as elsewhere in the country to continue the social safety network, he added.
The Ministry of Food and Disaster Management allocated 3,287 tonnes of wheat under the TR programme for implementation of the maintenance and repair works of the rural infrastructures under a total of 2,035 approved projects.
