Trade fairs for increasing export

Thursday, 21 June 2007

A recent report disclosed that Bangladesh companies participated in the Seoul Fair received confirmed export orders of $0.29 million and prospective orders of $ 3.5 million. It said Bangladesh pavilion was the second largest in the fair in which nine Bangladesh companies participated. This fair was organised by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) in cooperation with Bangladesh Mission in Seoul. Bangladeshi participants are said to have expressed their satisfaction at the outcome of the fair. They also found a potential export market for the Bangladeshi products in South Korea.
The EPB deserves appreciation for organising this fair. It has so far ensured participation of Bangladeshi enterprises in many fairs in different prospective buyer countries. It also organised single country fairs in many foreign countries. These fairs have enabled this country to expand and create new markets for its different kinds of products. Participation in international fairs gives our business organisations and entrepreneurs from small to medium enterprises a scope to showcase their products in front of wide range of buyers and help them expand their market. This kind of fair can also help reduce the nation's trade gap with the country where it is organised.
We expect that EPB would be active to organise more fairs in different developed and developing countries. Such fairs may be specially arranged in countries with which we have trade gaps. However, the selection process for participation in these fairs should ensure that every enterprise having a reasonable export capacity gets an opportunity to represent itself on a rotational basis.
