Wednesday, 20 April 2011

FE Report
Businessmen clashed with law enforcers in the capital's Mirpur area Tuesday following the arrest of three traders on charge of marketing pirated compact discs (CDs). Witnesses said members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a drive at shops located in the second and third floors of Mirpur Cooperative Market and detained three traders Nasiruddin, Mahmudul Hasan and Deen Islam-for their alleged involvement in selling pirated CDs. All the traders of the market came to the street by shutting down their business establishments and demanded immediate release of their colleagues, a sub-inspector (SI) of Shah Ali police station said. He said the protesters turned violent as the RAB men denied release of the arrestees, leading to chase and counter-chase between the policemen and the businessmen that turned the area into a battlefield. Operation officer of RAB-4 unit Nurul Amin said following secret information they launched the raid as a part of their ongoing anti-video piracy drive and picked the traders up with pirated video compact discs.
