Traders of Panchbibi on Tuesday protested the alleged torture on their fellows by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members. The traders took to the street in the morning and blocked Joypurhat-Hili road at Tinmatha of Panchbibi Bazar for three hours from 11am, creating a gridlock on the road. They also held a procession in protest against the incident. According to Panchbibi Police Station officer-in-charge Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal and Joypurhat Chamber of Commerce and Industry executive member Obaidur Rahman, a BGB team assaulted the owner of a restaurant and sweetmeat shop, his brother and a worker during a raid early Monday. The traders withdrew their blockade when deputy commissioner Mohammad Yasin, police super Hamidul Alam and Joypurhat Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Abdul Hakim Mondal assured them of taking necessary steps in this regard, according to a news agency.
